ICTMD Study Group-PASEA

The International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance Performing Arts of Southeast Asia Study Group or ICTMD Study Group-PASEA is focused on studying and researching music, dance, and theater from Southeast Asia and its expressions within and outside of the region. ICTMD Study Group-PASEA regularly provides platforms for scholars who are dedicated to this study. The PASEA Study Group brings together these scholars for further engagement and interaction with one another. ICTMD members may request membership upon request to the current Study Group Chairperson.

International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance

The International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD), formerly known as the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) is a scholarly organization which aims to further the study, practice, documentation, preservation, and dissemination of traditional music and dance of all countries. To these ends the Council organizes World Conferences, Symposia, Colloquia, and Fora, and publishes the Yearbook for Traditional Music and the online Bulletin of the ICTMD. As a non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO and by means of its wide international representation and the activities of its Study Groups, the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance acts as a bond among peoples of different cultures and thus contributes to the peace of humankind.

The University of the Philippines or UP is the country’s national university. This premier institution of higher learning was established in 1908 and is now a university system composed of eight constituent universities and one autonomous college, located in 17 campuses all over the archipelago. University of the Philippines Diliman

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) is the main campus of the University of the Philippines System (UP System), the national university by virtue of Republic Act 9500. UPD is located in Quezon City, boasting of around 250 academic programs in the undergraduate level, master’s, professional master’s, Juris Doctor, BA-MA Honors, and and the doctoral levels. UP Center for Ethnomusicology

The UP Center for Ethnomusicology or UPCE serves as a center for research in the region, harnessing its rich archive of music research, mostly from the Philippines. The UPCE houses the Jose Maceda Collection, a lifetime project of its founder, Jose Maceda. Today, aside from maintaining its vast archive, UPCE also generates musical and music-related knowledge and materials from an interdisciplinary perspective for academic study, pedagogy, artistic production and other applications. The Center and its collection have been developed and established to assist scholars (representing disciplines in the humanities and social sciences), composers, and serious artists and pedagogues in music.

The UP College of Music or UP CMu is the premiere institution of music learning of the University of the Philippines, located in the Diliman campus. The UP CMu produces excellent performers, artists, and scholars of music and dance, grounded in the self, communities, and the nation. The college also promotes the production of innovative music composition, progressive pedagogical approaches, and persuasive theories and apt methods in research that would put Filipino leadership in the field of music in the Southeast Asian region.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) with its three campuses in Iloilo City, Iloilo and Miag-ao, Iloilo, is the acknowledged authority in marine science education and research, fisheries, and aquaculture in the country. Its research endeavors are supported by the following facilities: Brackishwater Aquaculture Center, Freshwater Aquaculture Station, Batan Mariculture Station, and Marine Biological Station. It is also the base agency of the Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium. Apart from its focus on the sciences, this constituent university also prioritizes the preservation and enrichment of Visayan cultural heritage.

The Center for West Visayan Studies or CWVS is a repository, research hub, and a center for preservation, promotion, and dissemination of West Visayan history, culture, and heritage. It is under the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City, Philippines. CWVS promotes partnership and engagement for research and growth in the region.
